The challenge...................................................»

Client designs and manufactures Industrial Electronics Equipment to the semiconductor foundry companies. Semiconductor foundry companies need to maintain near zero static charge in the semiconductor production areas to prevent damage to the wafers due to high static voltage. Client had an existing wired system consisting of sensor device and high voltage ionizer bars. The new system needs to be developed to eliminate the wired connections between sensors and ionizer bars. In addition, easy calibration and configurability is to be provided with help of a PC/ Laptop. The entire system needs to be working under the presence of high voltage in the working environment.

The DCM team worked out with the client and developed ARM 7 based platform running Nucleus operating systems and SiliconWave Bluetooth dongles connected to the serial port. The wires were replaced by DCM Bluetooth stack providing the connectivity through the air over the serial port. Application program was written under PC/ Windows to provide calibration and easy configurability. Following items were developed as the part of solution:

  • Platform board with ARM 7 processor and Bluetooth dongle connected on to the serial port
  • Porting of Nucleus operating system and DCM Bluetooth on to the platform board
  • PC/ Windows with Bluetooth dongle connected to the serial port
  • GUI based application development under for calibration, configuration and communication between sensors and ionizer bars

The system works as a close loop system. The sensor nodes pick up the static voltages in the environment and communicate to the PC. Depending on the sensed charge polarity and magnitude, PC instructs appropriate ionizer bars to be charged with appropriate voltages and polarity.

The project was delivered on time and fixed budget with zero defect reported by the client even after a period of 12 months testing.
